Hi , I am a nursing mother with 2.5 months old baby. I was told not to take multivitamins with preformed Vitamin A in it but rather take caretone type vitamin A during my pregnancy. Is this still something I need to watch for? What are the most important things I should care about when looking for a good multivitamin (prenatal multi)?
Prenatal vitamins are, in general, specifically made for the needs of both the mother and fetus.  In pregnancy, a vitamin that...

I'm a vegetarian and have been for about 6 years now. I have noticed that my hair has been getting thinner and thinner. What could be causing this? And what can I do to change this?

My family, including my 5 and 8 year old children, are all vegetarians. We do not eat meat, poultry, or fish- we do eat dairy and eggs. I was wondering if I need to give my children vitamin b12 supplements. And if so, what dose and what form would be best? I haven't been able to get a clear answer on this question- I would really appreciate any advice you may have.
Hello Virginia , You have written that you do eat dairy and eggs.  That helps. In addition it is important that...

Hi I am 28 years old male. Recently I have done the South Beach Diet to lose some weight and it worked. This actually helped me with my GERD as well , which I am glad. However I started to lose hair (or I just noticed it after I went to the second phase of the diet). I did some research online and learned that FAD diets with which one loses weight rapidly may cause hair loss. My question is "is it reversable" because I am off the diet now. I looked at male pattern hair loss and mine did not look like that, my hair loss is more diffused and mostly affects the top part of my head. Do you think my hair loss will reverse and hair fill back in since I am off the diet for the most part?"
Yes, the hair loss is temporary and due to nutritional deficiencies common to fad diets.  Most likely you are deficient...

I am a 49 year old woman who had very good bone density when checked three years ago. I have two small kidney stones (which were discovered during an abodminal scan but have never given me problems.) I used to take calcium supplements daily, but when the kidney stones were discovered a year ago, the doctor advised me not to take them anymore. Is this sound advice?
We are addressing three problems here. 1. You have mentioned your age. Are your periods regular?   During reproductive age, the woman...
